"Taboo Topic"

Anyone that knows me, knows that I am a reality show addict. I am starting to feel like I could use my time much better so have been trying to get out of this. For instance, Big Brother has been consuming my days & nights this summer!! Being a huge The Bachelor fan, it hit close to home to hear of the recent passing of one of the reality show's contestants. She was on The Bachelor, and The Bachelor Pad two times. She was a gorgeous model with an amazing personality and everyone seemed to love her. Following her on Twitter, I would sometimes see pictures or updates from her and she always seemed so upbeat and happy.

Having studied psychology and social work, I am obviously aware that depression and suicide can happen to anyone. This is regardless of status, looks, family, career, or level of "happiness" In fact, with bi-polar disorder, happiness can be a sign of something negative to come. Depression works in mysterious ways and can make one feel like they are in hole and they do not see any way of getting out. It clouds your thoughts and vision to think that there is no way you will be at a "normal" level of happiness. Depression makes life seem like a chore and that the best answer is to not live it.

I feel that it is important for everyone to be educated about mental health and suicide because it is all around us. Suicide IS preventable.
